Dining Room Redesign: From Facebook Marketplace to a Stylish, Functional Space
When a local client reached out for help refreshing her dining room, I knew we were in for something special. She already had an incredible sense of style and a clear vision for her space—she even scored this stunning sculptural dining table on Facebook Marketplace! But she wanted a little extra support to bring everything together and create a room that felt both functional and effortlessly stylish.
Whether you’re starting with a blank slate or working with furniture you already own, a dining room redesign can breathe new life into your space. Here’s how we turned her dining room into a functional and stylish area perfect for family meals and hosting friends.
Starting with What She Loved
One of the joys of working with clients is honoring the pieces they already treasure. That gorgeous dining table, with its bold shape and unique chatacter, became the centerpiece of the room, setting the tone for the entire space. It’s a reminder that you don’t need to replace everything to achieve a fresh, updated look. Sometimes, all it takes is incorporating a few key pieces that enhance what’s already there.
If you’ve ever felt unsure about how to blend old and new furniture, that’s where I come in! My goal is to support your vision, helping you use what you love while creating a cohesive, elevated space.
Adding New Pieces for a Fresh Look
To complement the table’s graceful curves, we sourced a set of upholstered dining chairs that add softness and lightness to the room. They’re comfortable, versatile, and the perfect counterpart to the table’s bold shape.
Next, we introduced a sideboard from Four Hands. Not only does it provide ample storage, but its warm wood tone adds depth and contrast, grounding the space in a way that feels intentional and polished. Mixing wood finishes kept the look curated and unique—far from the “matchy-matchy” showroom vibe.
The Power of Mixing Wood Tones in Dining Room Design
Blending different wood finishes might feel intimidating, but it’s one of the best ways to give a space a unique, designer touch. Here, the mix of tones made the dining room feel collected and intentional, as though each piece had its own story to tell.
Layering in Personality
The finishing touches were all about making the space truly hers. This trio of mirrors hung above the sideboard bounce light and reflection throughout the room. Then, my client repurposed a glass chandelier from another area of her home—it’s the perfect statement piece, like jewelry for the room.
Before and After: A Transformation That Inspires
Seeing the room evolve from its “before” state to this inviting, stylish space was a joy. The dining room went from feeling heavy and dated to becoming a centerpiece of the home—a place where she can host friends, enjoy family meals, or even just sip her morning coffee in style.
