Why a Budget is Important for Your Next Decorating Project
In all my projects with clients one of the first and biggest questions we start with is what’s your budget.
Honestly, it’s a hard question for most folks to answer. Understandably! There’s a bunch of stuff that makes it a bit tricky… Let’s break it down a little.
First off, unless you're a pro at giving your home a makeover, thinking about all the bits and pieces that make up a space you'll adore can be a head-scratcher. What ALL even goes into a room anyway, right?
And adding to the struggle is a lack of knowledge about what furniture and furnishings are really costing these days. Plus you have to factor in the quality of goods you’re searching for. What’s your comfort zone for spending on this project? So many questions!
Having a budget guide helps you steer clear of some common pitfalls:
No More Sticker Shock—
A budget guide helps you dodge the dreaded sticker shock. No one wants that surprise, right?
Avoid Running Out of Funds—
Ever started a project only to realize you’re running low on funds and you’re only half way through the process? A budget guide can help you navigate how and where to invest and COMPLETE the design of your space.
Communicating with Clarity—
Having clarity about your budget will help you avoid communicating a certain price point to your designer, then being disappointed with the design because either, it’s more expensive than you planned, or the quality of furnishings isn’t the level you hoped for.
Mixing High and Low Like a Pro—
A lot of my clients find that they want options from each price point category. For instance, they may want to invest in a more luxury brand chandelier for the dining room but opt for an economical choice on the area rug due to having small kiddos or pets. Tweaks like this can help you get the most bang for your buck.
Be Prepared—
Crunch those numbers, and then be ready to flex a bit. Projects have a way of throwing surprises, like forgetting rug pads, light bulbs, or that extra floor lamp you suddenly need. Maybe that pricier sofa becomes too tempting to resist – it happens!
One of the many benefits in hiring a designer is that she or he will look at the project as a whole and help you decide where to splurge and where to choose a more economical piece while still creating the same feeling and look that makes your home a place where you feel the most yourself!
I’ve put together a budget guide for the most common rooms in a home. It’s based on three different price points: Budget, Mid-Tier, Designer. Whatever your investment level this guide should help you navigate well.
