New Trends and Classic Looks—as seen at 2021 Fall Market

This past weekend I got to hang out at High Point Market in North Carolina. HPMKT is the largest home furnishings trade show in the world and it happens twice a year—in the fall and spring.

I spend a tremendous amount of time online shopping for my E-design clients. So being at Market where I could see products in person was delightful. Getting to touch and feel the furnishings, see them in all their dimensions, and experience them with all my senses! YES!

Also, it was a real treat to see the upcoming trends as well as the timeless classics in homewares.

Circular Shapes

There’s a good amount of circular shapes coming out in furniture and accessories. Lots of rounded edges on chairs and case goods. The humble circle is also showing up in lighting and mirrors. Check out all the rounded shapes in the photos I took below—

These barrel-backed chairs hug you when you sit in them. Check out the rounded edges of the coffee table!

Isn’t this arched hutch so lovely?!

Extra points if you count all the circular shaped furnishings in this pic!

I wanna have lunch in this beautiful vignette in the Hudson Valley Lighting showroom. Those bamboo barrel-back chairs are such a fun compliment to the round pedestal tables. They offer a softer feel to the squared off buffet bench.

Natural Textures

Our need for nature and natural elements has escalated over the past 18 months as we’ve found ourselves in a new routine and a new way of living out everyday life.

And now that influence is showing up in home furnishings—lots of nature motifs in the art and textiles.

Animal prints show up on pillows and upholstery. AND on clothing! It’s seemed like everyone at market was adorned with animal prints. Everything from shoes, bags, skirts, to tops, etc.

These large feather art pieces are full of visual texture and movement!

This line of Loloi rugs in partnership with Rifle Paper Company is aptly named Eden with its outdoor garden themes.

Rattan, cane, and bamboo is not going away for a while. Not only is it playing to our need for more organic forms —and giving a nod to nature in our home furnishings—it’s also lightweight and easier to ship. And we all know what an issue shipping is right now. So expect to continue to see a lot of these in the future.

This evergreen sofa looks right at home with that textured wallpaper.

Notice the rattan wrapped finish on this floor lamp and chandelier.

Color

Neutrals are still having their heyday in the home decor world. And black and white is in full swing. But there was also lots of bold colors. Which I am here for!

Check out the wide range of color options in the pictures I took below—

This amazing rug is made in Afghanistan. My pic does it no justice.

Pleats

Next up in the home decor trend watch is pleats! Check out these lovely light fixtures. This new take on pleated lamp shades feels fresh and interesting. I’m into it!

In the first picture the light fixtures are also wrapped in rattan, giving it a lot of texture for the eye to feast on. In the second pic, the stitching can be seen on the pleated lamp shades for a little more casual look.

Art

Last up on the home decor trends is the art category. Look at all the nature motifs. And check out the color palettes!

My take on the home decor trends is far from exhaustive—I just wanted to share with you the things that really jumped out at me while I was at Market. According to my health app I walked a total of 18 miles for the 2 days I was there and I only covered a small fraction of the showrooms! So this post is just a small snippet of what’s out there right now.

What do you think? Did anything jump out at you?

It’s a boat load of fun to take in all the new styles in home decor, BUT I’m a firm believer that our homes are at their best when they reflect the folks who live in them and not just what’s new and trendy! If you find yourself wishing for some help in creating a home that is fresh, yet full of your own personality and style I would love to chat about how I could come alongside you in making that happen. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you might have!
